With its advanced technology and design, the 2016 Chevrolet Volt is guaranteed to pick up some automotive awards. However, it recently received an award for a much more important reason.
According to a Chevrolet press release, the 2016 Chevrolet Volt was named Green Car of the Year.
The title is awarded by the Green Car Journal to a vehicle that makes strives to help improve the environment in some way.
The 2016 Chevrolet Volt certainly accomplishes that. The electric vehicle has impressive fuel efficiency, and has a range of up to 420 miles. Combine those and you get a car drivers don’t have to refill until nearly 1,000 miles are traveled.
“Chevrolet’s all-new Volt is a milestone, building on an already-technologically advanced ‘green’ car and delivering what buyers have longed for, including an impressive 53-mile driving range on a single charge,” said Ron Cogan, editor and publisher of Green Car Journal and CarsOfChange.com.
Drivers shouldn’t be shocked that the impressive 2016 Chevrolet Volt is greenest car around!
The Chevrolet Volt is seeing major improvements for its 2016 incarnation. Enhancements cover nearly every major area, especially in the power department…star-power, that is.
Nothing attracts stars like another star. Several celebrities came out to honor the rebirth of the Volt, including Lance Bass of N*Sync, Paris Hilton, and Beverly Hills, 90210 star Tori Spelling. Of course, it should be mentioned, as Green Car Reports did, that Chevrolet’s “southern California office quietly loans new General Motors cars to influencers, advocates, and celebs.” So, we might not be able to say these celebrities are entirely unselfish in their support, but it’s still a win/win!
Of course, the real star of the show was the new redesigned 2016 Chevrolet Volt. The automaker happily reported in a press statement that the Volt has a “new, efficient propulsion system” which “enables 19% stronger zero-to-30 mph acceleration” and a “total driving range of more than 400 miles.” Those kinds of numbers will make anyone fans, including us at College Chevy Buick.
A good thing just keeps getting better. 2016 Chevy Volt efficiency has earned the EV the title of Kelly Blue Book’s best electric/hybrid buy for 2015. Add on top of that a healthy dollop of 12% boost in efficiency and overall range. Sprinkle with nuts, drizzle with chocolate and you have a pretty darn good-looking car. Drive happily.
This boost in efficiency means that, with its combined gas and electric power, the 2016 Chevy Volt claims a step of 45 miles (from 380 to 425). No word yet on the improvements for the all-electric range, which is what customers are really clamoring to have improved.
Only a teaser was revealed (the front left corner) at the LA Auto Show. The whole thing is set to be revealed in Detroit in January. There is one thing we can be sure of however; the new model will be lighter, quieter, more powerful, and more efficient than the current model (which is already an award winner). What else could you ask for?

According to Interbrand, Chevrolet is one of the top green brands. Chevrolet came in at the number 32 spot and it was the brand’s first year on the list. To be considered for the Green List.
“What was most compelling about Chevrolet’s data was the very small gap between public perception and environmental performance. The company is not only actively demonstrating its environmental commitment; it’s communicating those efforts in an authentic way that resonates with customers,” said Interbrand’s global CEO Jez Frampton.
Chevrolet was noted for its manufacturing processes, governance, and overall environmental performance. The models that helped Chevrolet cross over into the green market include the Chevy Volt, Chevy Spark EV, and the Chevy Cruze. All three models are known for their excellent efficiency ratings.
