    What's your favorite car color?
2014 Chevy Sonic in Dragon Green Metallic

Over the years, the top five car colors have changed little by little almost every year. Back in 1994, Axalta says that the most popular car color was green, followed by red, white, blue, and black. In 2013, the most popular car color was white followed by black, silver, gray, and red. As you can see, things have shifted over the years from bright and colorful to less-flashier neutral tones.

Edmunds.com says that Apple has had a huge impact on the way people choose their car colors. If you think about it, the iPhone’s most popular colors include white, black, and silver. If you think back to the 90’s iMac computers were popular in teal, green, and purple just to name a few. Now that the colored versions of the iPhone are available, we’ll have to see if the top five car colors change as well.

According to Yahoo Autos, driving a white car may be safer than driving a black one. The Monash University Accident Research Centre in Victoria, Australia claims that black cars have a 12% higher crash risk than white cars in the daylight and a 47% higher crash risk when it is dark. Of course white cars also have a few advantages such as reflecting sunlight, easier to clean, and the color is neutral.

The good news is that we have a variety of car colors for you to choose from on our lot. What’s your favorite car color? Let us know in the comment section below!

  • Buick Going Global

The Buick Encore is a hit across the United States, Canada and is also showing promise in Europe. In Europe, the Encore is known as the Opel Mokka. The European version has a few minor trim changes. GM is hoping that the Buick Brand can go global into the future following Chevrolet and Cadillac’s footsteps.

Overall the Opel Mokka looks similar to the Encore. Both are in the compact crossover group, come in a 4-cylinder engine and have an all-wheel drive option. The Opel Mokka is also available with a diesel engine.

Both the Encore and Mokka have enough seating for five passengers and offer a unique design, capable engines and smart technologies. These are all features that markets around the world are looking for. The Buick Encore has had excellent reviews here in the United States, GM is hoping for the same in the European and even the Asian markets.

College Chevrolet is proud to carry the Buick Encore, Opel Mokka’s experienced sister. To learn more about the Buick Encore or another member of the Buick family, stop by College Chevrolet and talk to an experienced Sales Representative today!

  • Bye-Bye Bench Seat

The front bench seat used to be a prominent fixture in a variety of automobiles, from the sedan to the pickup truck. But with the release of the 2014 Chevrolet Impala next year, the days of the front bench seat will disappear.  Chevrolet’s latest installment of the Impala is the last passenger car in production in North America to have an option for three-across front seating.

For many the front bench seat brings back fond memories from days that would be otherwise forgotten. GM director of design, Clay Dean states, “There is certain nostalgia for bench seats, like being able to snuggle up with your date at a drive-in movie, and some customers still like them.”

However, nostalgia aside, the need for six-passenger sedans has been largely reduced thanks to SUVs and crossovers, like the Chevy Equinox and Traverse.

While the front bench seat says farewell it may be more like see you later. Clay Dean doesn’t completely rule the possibility of a comeback, “You never know, we might see bench seats re-emerge someday, possibly in very small cars like the EN-V urban mobility concept vehicle, in which the feeling of open space may be very desirable.”

  • CD Player “Played-Out” for Chevy Spark

The folks at Chevrolet have made it very clear that the Chevy Spark is designed to entice a younger, more urban consumer. Recently, they made that more clear by making the 2013 Chevrolet Spark the first Chevy not to offer a factory-installed CD player since they were widely introduce to models in the 1990s.

Base models of the Spark, priced at under 13k, won’t have an option to get MyLink, but they will be equipped with a basic AM-FM radio and a plug for portable music players. The 1LT and 2LT trims are equipped with the MyLink infotainment system, with a seven-inch color touch screen and the capability to play music through Pandora Internet Radio.

Chevrolet spokeswoman, Afaf Farah stated, “It’s more of a logical approach for this type of vehicle. Today’s younger customer is doing everything with their mobile devices, so this is a way to have all their apps and music in the vehicle.”

“It may alienate some buyers, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing,” said John Canali, a senior analyst at Strategy Analytics. “Our research shows that there are a fair amount of older people who don’t want to give up their CD players, but many admit to actually using them only two or three times a year.”

The Spark is set to debut nationwide in August and College Chevy is ready! With or without a CD player this car is set to turn heads.
