Scenic Drives in Michigan

Many midwesterners already know that summer is the perfect time to visit Michigan. Temperatures are warm but milder than southern states, and wildlife and nature are at their best. Enjoy the Great Lake State by taking your vehicle from College Chevrolet Buick on one of these scenic drives in Michigan.

Red Arrow Highway

This beautiful route will take you through some of the most charming beach towns and past the gorgeous southern coast of Lake Michigan. You’ll have plenty of opportunities to stop and explore interesting Michigan cities like Union Pier and Harbert. There are many wine vineyards to be enjoyed along this route, too—just make sure you reserve a quaint bed and breakfast or a cozy campsite to sleep it off before continuing on your course along the west side of Michigan.

M-22

If camping is definitely a goal, take M-22 north towards Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. The road stretches along a different part of the Lake Michigan coast, and takes you to gorgeous destinations such as Sleeping Bear Dunes, as well as Huron-Manistee National Forests.

US-2

You haven’t really toured Michigan until you’ve also gotten a taste of the Upper Peninsula. You can catch US-2 just across the Mackinac Bridge in St. Ignace. From there, you’ll take it along the southern coast of the UP. Breathtaking sites are aplenty up here, whether you’re on the southern end or catch M-117 at Engadine to head north towards the stunning Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.

Employee Spotlight: Rob Brown

This month, we’d like to highlight one of our newest team members. Meet Rob Brown, our new sales consultant. He’s Battle Creek native and has been working in the automotive industry for 20 years. He graduated from Harper Creek High School and also attended Kellogg Community College. Rob is a proud Combat U.S. Army Veteran who took part in Operation Desert Shield/Storm.

Rob isn’t big on television, but he does enjoy golfing, fishing, and spending quality time with his daughter, Kylie. He is also a huge Detroit Tigers fan!

If Rob were a car, he says that a truck would match his personality best. Currently, he drives a 1999 Olds 88, but his favorite car he’s ever owned is a 1998 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28. His favorite vehicle that we carry on our lot is a Chevy Camaro. Rob says that the worst car he’s ever driven is a Ford Festiva.

Rob’s favorite thing on the job is meeting with new people and helping them with their vehicle needs. Stop by and say “Hey!” to our newest team member, Rob Brown today!

Eat Outside at These Michigan Restaurants with Outdoor Patios

When the summer rolls around, there is nothing quite like enjoying a cold beverage and a fresh meal on the patio of a great restaurant. Fortunately for residents of Albion, there are a number of excellent dining establishments within driving range that offer outdoor seating to further enhance your eating experience.

Michigan Restaurants with Outdoor Patios

Hungry Howie’s (Albion)

While there are several great places to eat right here in Albion, a lot of the finer dining establishments have, let’s say, a more industrial aesthetic. Hungry Howie’s is one of the very few places to eat in Albion with a patio, which is reason enough to visit in the summer, but Howie’s pizza should be all the incentive you need to drop in. We recommend the Howie Special on thin crust in particular!

The Curragh (Holland)

Looking out over the water at Milwaukee is The Curragh in Holland, MI, an Irish pub famous for its St. Patrick’s Day celebration and unique menus. Stop by this season to dine from the Tulip Time 2017 menu, which includes exceptional Guinness® Cheese Soup, the Ambassador Sandwich and unforgettable Guinness® Fish & Chips. Enjoy all of this with—you guessed it—a cold Guinness® from The Curragh’s patio and soak up the sun. To learn more about what’s going on at The Curragh, visit CurraghHolland.com.

Bill’s Beer Garden (Ann Arbor)

If part of your summer plans entail a trip to Blue Country, then swing by Bill’s Beer Garden in Ann Arbor. Just a block away from Main St., Bill’s has the perfect patio for dining, conversing, and cheering on the home team. While Bill’s Beer Garden specializes in adult beverages, its partnership with Mark’s Carts means you can grab everything from paella and tapas to Indian food and pizza from nearby food carts and fuel up.

If you want to dine outside, these restaurants are hard to beat. If you want to get there in style, College Chevrolet Buick has plenty of the latest cars, trucks, and SUVs to choose from—including plenty of models that come with sunroofs!

Employee Spotlight: John William

John WilliamThis month we’d like for you to meet John William! John is a part of our sales team and has been working with us for an impressive 49 years! He is an Albion native and still resides right here in his hometown.

When it comes to cars, his dream car is a Bugati Veyron because they look cool and intimidating. Who wouldn’t want that? John says that if he were a car, he would probably be a Chevrolet Corvette. Currently, you’ll catch John driving down the road in his GMC 1500, Pontiac G6, or Mercedes Kompressor. His favorite vehicle he’s ever owned is a 1966 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 396. His favorite new vehicle on our lot is the Chevy Camaro or the Buick Regal. The worst car John says that he’s ever driven was a 1955 Ford because nothing seemed to work on it.

When not on the job, you’ll find John fishing, checking out antique cars, bowling, spending time with his grandkids or BBQ’ing. His favorite sports team is the Detroit Tigers and he really enjoys watching Law and Order and 60 Minutes.

We invite you to come say “Hello!” to John because his favorite part of working here at College Chevrolet Buick is meeting and interacting with different people. If you’re in the market for a new car, stop by and see John today!

Holiday Travel Tips to Reduce Stress

Holiday Travel TipsHolidays are stressful to begin with, and travelling tends to exacerbate the situation. That’s why we’ve put together a list of holiday travel tips, specifically those that’ll help you stay relaxed on your trip. Whether you fly, drive, or take a train or bus, there’s tips any traveler can appreciate.

To being with, ignore your instincts and pack light. According to The New York Times, you should avoid packing your vehicle to the brim if possible. If flying, ship your gifts in advance—don’t let them be ripped open by TSA agents.  “I’ve seen instances when TSAs had to rip open beautifully wrapped gifts, which is not a fun way to start off a holiday,” David Solomito, the vice president of marketing at the travel search engine Kayak, has said.

Solomito also notes that the best day to travel is—believe it or not—the actual holiday itself. You’re statistically likely to find fewer crowds, less traffic, and better airfare on Christmas Day, than, say, a day or two before. If you can avoid flying or driving home before the actual holiday, you could have a much more enjoyable trip.

Finally, take the direct route. For drivers, this is more obvious. However, if you choose to fly, you might consider spending a little extra for fewer layovers. Connections will drastically increase stress, especially because holiday flights are prone to delays and overbooking. Unless you save hundreds of dollars, it might be worth it to take the shortest route.

Currently, he drives a Chevy Equinox, but he thinks that the Tahoe matches his personality best. He says that the worst car that he’s ever driven was a Chevy Corsica.

When not at work, you’ll find Rene at the bowling alley, hanging out with family, and playing the guitar. He is a big fan of “Impractical Jokers” and “Two and a Half Men”. He also enjoys cheering on the Detroit Lions.

New Thanksgiving Traditions You Should Try

Happy Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving from College Chevrolet Buick!

Thanksgiving is all about family traditions, but if you’re sick of doing the same old thing, here are some new Thanksgiving traditions for the family looking to mix things up.

Make a Big Breakfast

Who wants to wait for dinner? Tide yourself over until the big meal later by indulging in a bigger-than-usual breakfast, all made from scratch.

Have Some “Me Time”

Some people get exhausted interacting with family all day. Before the big dinner, take some time to yourself to read a book, watch your favorite show, or go to a park.

Have Everyone Write Down Their “Thanks” – On the Table!

Instead of a tablecloth, try covering the table in butcher paper, then hand out pens to everyone. Have everyone write down what they’re thankful for during dinner.

Take a Walk as a Family

Now that your belly is full of delicious food, have everybody burn off the calories before dessert by going for a walk together.

Skype With Faraway Loved Ones

Is your family out-of-town? Use a program like Skype or Google Hangouts to get in touch during dinnertime!

Do you have any new Thanksgiving traditions of your own? Get creative this Thanksgiving season and brainstorm new ways to celebrate the holiday with your family.
