• 2013 Buick Encore Ranks Highest in APEAL

It is not a typo; APEAL stands for Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout, and it is an annual study conducted by the automotive research juggernaut, J.D. Power and Associates.
The APEAL Study was not coincidentally named.  It aims to see just how appealing a car is to drive, and the 2013 Buick Encore ranked highest in its segment after also recently being recognized by J.D. Power as the “Highest Ranked Sub-Compact CUV in Initial Quality.”

“Recognizing the Encore demonstrates the effort and attention to detail given by our engineers and designers,” said Tony DiSalle, vice president of Buick Marketing, in a press release. “This award reinforces our focus on putting the customer at the center of everything we do.”

J.D. Power does not hand out APEAL Awards without first doing its homework.  The APEAL Study is based on responses submitted by more than 83,000 drivers on just how gratifying their new vehicle is to own 90 days after their purchase.

  • And the winner is… the 2014 Chevrolet Impala!

After a full redesign for 2013 the all-new 2014 Chevrolet Impala continues to impress. So much so that Consumer Reports rated the Impala as the best sedan on the market.

It has been 20 years since an American sedan has claimed this honor.

On the Consumer Reports scale of 0-100, the 2014 Chevrolet Impala earned an impressive 95! This is a far cry from the Impalas of the past and one of the highest-rated vehicles ever by Consumer Reports.

While the Impala has always been a spacious and comfortable full-sized sedan, some questioned its performance. The previous Impala was frequently seen as more of a company fleet car or rental car.

In an always popular class, Chevrolet engineers took the Impala and completely over hauled the sedan.  With a much more luxurious and refined interior and exterior, and enhanced performance thanks to a 3.6L V6, the 2014 Impala has been a welcome addition to the Chevy fleet.

Known for being an affordable full-size sedan, the Impala is more than impressive with a base price of under $27,000.

Consumer Reports chief auto tester, Jake Fisher, had this to say about the 2014 Chevrolet Impala, “It really doesn’t fall down in any area, and it does a lot of things really well.” He also stated, “The car rides better than a Lexus ES. It’s quieter than many luxury cars. It’s extremely roomy.”

If you haven’t had a chance to test drive the new Impala know is a great time to get down to College Chevy and get inside the 2014 Impala. GM certainly hit the mark with this one.

  • Silverado Ad Targets “Cowgirls” and “Tomboys”

The all-new 2014 Chevy Silverado has been the talk of the town ever since it was unveiled last December. Now that it’s hit dealerships, the best-selling pickup has spread like wildfire across TV sets, radio stations, and computer screens. The latest advertisement, which follows the same emotional tone set by Chevy’s recent “Strong” ad, is geared toward women, specifically cowgirls and tomboys who don’t mind getting their hands dirty.

The ad appeals particularly to equestrians who know the pain of having to tote around their 1,200-pound companions, highlighting the Silverado’s best-in-class towing capacity. At the same time, the advertisement transforms the connection that the equestrian has with her horse—that same connection that many of us have with our own animals—into a connection between her and the Chevy Silverado that she can rely on when she needs it.

“On one trip we were driving over the mountains of Pennsylvania, trailering three horses and 10-days’ worth of feed, hay and luggage weighing a total 15,500 pounds, and [it] never even burped,” commented Jennifer Thompson, a horse veterinarian, in a related press release. “My fellow driver, who owns a Ford F-250, was really jealous.”

But the commercial does more than just demonstrate a Silverado’s usefulness in hauling a horse. It makes it very clear that Chevy understands all of its customers, men and women alike, from their varied but important walks of life—and how a Chevy can fit perfectly into all of them.

  • It’s Baaaaacck! Chevrolet Camaro Z/28

While the return of the Corvette Stingray nameplate is certainly something to celebrate, we’d be foolish if we forget about the return of the Chevrolet Camaro Z/28.

First produced in 1966, the Camaro Z/28 is built with track speed and performance. With its strong but lightweight chassis and incredibly powerful small-block 7.0L LS7 V8 engine, the Camaro Z/28 is the ultimate track capable vehicle.

When building the 2014 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28, Chevy engineers to in to account the way air and friction affect vehicles at high speeds and made the Camaro Z/28 incredibly aerodynamic.

If you want the full track feel in a Camaro, the Camaro Z/28 is the car for you. The wheels go from 20 inches down to 19 to save you over 40 pounds.  Not to mention removing the amenities to make your Camaro a true speed freak. Tire inflation kit, trunk carpeting, fog lights, multiple speakers – all taken away, even air conditioning is optional on the Z/28. This is not simply a Camaro to show-off, it’s a Camaro that show out.

Big things can be expected from all of the Chevy performance vehicles, but it’s good to see a car with a true unfiltered racing spirit back in the Chevrolet arsenal. The2014 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 will make it’s debut this fall.

  • Fun for the Fourth

This Thursday marks the 237th time the United States has celebrated its independence from Great Britain on the Fourth of July. Over that period of time the USA has grown from thirteen colonies to 50 states and a federal district.

  • Chevy and the U.S. Soccer Federation

One year after announcing a partnership with Manchester United, Chevy is making its way back to the pitch. Last week Chevrolet announced a three-year sponsorship deal with the United States Soccer Federation.  This means Chevrolet will likely be traveling to Brazil next year for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

Soccer is far and away the most popular sport in the world, played in virtually every city across the world. As Chevrolet continues to grow the brand globally partnerships like the one with ManU and U.S. Soccer are vital.

The popularity of soccer, or futbol if you prefer, also continues to grow in the United States, ranking only second to football in the millennial age group.

“Chevrolet has an impressive history as a global brand and we’re excited to begin this partnership,’ said U.S. Soccer President Sunil Gulati. “We are looking forward to working closely with such a committed and supportive company across all of our National Teams, especially our Youth National Teams and Development Academy.”

We’re excited to see the expansion of Chevrolet as it grows to new markets. Spreading to new markets helps stimulate new ideas and unique innovations for future Chevy vehicles. At College we always look forward to the next big thing from Chevrolet, so that we can share it with you.

  • How Hot is Too Hot?

On a warm summer day, sometimes it’s nice to have your animal companions get out of the house and go for a ride. But remember even mild outside temperatures can become deadly heat inside a locked car within minutes.

After just 10 minutes a car can be as hot as 94 degrees on a 75 degree day. And that temperature can hit 109 after 30 minutes. Turning what was supposed to be a quick trip to the grocery store into something far worse.

This is also critically important for parents with young children. Children should never be left alone in a vehicle, especially in the summer months as temperatures hit the 90s and above outside.

Aside from making sure you don’t leave your children or pets inside a hot vehicle, it’s important to remember to take necessary precautions to ensure safety.

Take the time to lock your vehicle. Children often use cars as hiding places for games. An unlocked vehicle could lead to a child getting trapped inside the cabin or trunk.

While we don’t wish to scare parents or guardians we do want you to be alert and mindful to protect your loved ones this summer. The summer is a great time for family outings, vacations, sporting events, cookouts, and more. And at College Chevy we hope it stays that way.

  • Return of the Rear-Wheel Chevy

After a nice long hibernation, 17 years, Chevy has brought back a rear-wheel drive sedan. The 2014 Chevrolet SS not only brings back rear-wheel drive to the Chevy fleet, but also adds to an already impressive performance line.

“The all-new SS is engineered for performance enthusiasts who’ve been clamoring for a rear-wheel-drive sedan,” said vice president of Chevrolet Marketing, Chris Perry.  “Adding the SS to the lineup further solidifies Chevrolet’s position as America’s best-selling performance-car brand that also includes the all-new 2014 Corvette Stingray and Camaro Z/28.”

Chevrolet recently announced the SS to be listed at $44,470 MSRP. For those who have heard that the Chevy SS will only come in one trim, that is correct. However, the SS is loaded with amenities. Chevy MyLink with a GPS-based navigation system, Bose® premium audio system with a 12-month trial of SirusXM, rear-vision camera with rear park assist, push-button start, and heated and ventilated front seats with memory are all standard.

A power sunroof and full-size spare tire are the only optional features for the 2014 SS.

Since the Chevy SS is a Chevrolet performance car, let’s look at some of the performance features. Equipped with the powerful LS3 6.2L small-block V-8, the SS is SAE certified at 415 HP and 415 lb-ft of torque. With that type of power it accelerates from 0 to 60 in roughly five seconds.  The six-speed automatic transmission can be sifted manually using TAPshift paddles mounted on the steering wheel.

While there’s still a bit of time before the 2014 Chevy SS makes its way to College, we excited for its arrival. In the meantime you can watch as the SS rips up the track on the NASCAR Sprint Cup series.
